Snapshot 4South Shields Sailing Club is a friendly, family club for dinghy, catamaran, and windsurfers, situated at the mouth of the river Tyne.  The club is run wholly by friendly volunteers of all ages, and backgrounds.

The majority of our sailing takes place in the mouth of the Tyne river between the north and south piers, however we do venture out onto the open seas at various times throughout the year.

Why not come along to the club and see for yourself what it is all about?

During the year we offer “Open Days” to allow potential members the opportunity to have a go. Look out for these on our website (Events), or come down to the club when people are around, 10:00am, 1:00pm on Sundays or 6:00pm on Wednesdays are when there are most people around (just before everyone goes sailing).

Come along and meet us and we will arrange to get you out onto the water and join in the fun. The most common routes to becoming a competent sailor are:-

Participate in an open day; take an RYA1/2 course and transition to sailing on your own.

Team up with someone that has a 2 person boat & “crew” for them.

RYA NE Champ 2014 0007Note: When starting dinghy sailing you should expect to get wet – you don’t always capsize, but you should be prepared and dressed accordingly. Warm quick drying clothing that is windproof is ideal. The club has some wetsuits & buoyancy aids you can borrow until you are sure that sailing is for you.
