South Shields Sailing Club is a friendly, family orientated club for dinghy, catamaran and windsurfers. We're positioned in an ideal sailing location, right at the mouth of the river Tyne. The club is run by friendly volunteers of all ages, and backgrounds.
The majority of our sailing takes place in the Mouth of the Tyne river between the north and south piers, however we do venture out onto the open seas at various times throughout the year. If you're really lucky, the local dolphin pod will pay you a visit!

During the year we have club Open Days to allow potential members the opportunity to take a look around the club or try out sailing if they haven't been before. We put information about these on our Facebook page and here on our website.
Intro to Sailing
We are organizing training mornings on the first Sunday of each month. The training is open to potential, new, and existing members.
Whether you’re completely new to the sport or looking to get back on the water our training sessions are the perfect way to gather new skills.
If you would like to get out on the water please register for one of the sessions.
If you enjoy your first session, why not join? We always welcome new members to the club, and are running monthly coaching sessions throughout the season.
Where do I sign up?
Come along and meet us and we will arrange to get you out onto the water and join in the fun. They'll usually be people down at the club on Wednesday evenings and most of the day on Sunday. If you've already sailed before, then there's nothing stopping you from heading over to our Membership Website and signing up straight away!
If you're new to sailing, the most common routes to becoming a competent sailor are:
- Participate in an open day
- Take part in one of our RYA level 1 or 2 courses
- Start sailing by yourself! We have club boats that members can hire
- Or you could team up with someone that has a 2 person boat & crew for them
